Vilnius University invites you to take part in an international citizen science conference

On 29 April 2025 Vilnius University invites you to an international conference devoted to the topic of citizen science, organised for the first time. The event will bring together researchers, representatives of non-governmental organisations, library specialists, students and everyone who is interested in the practice of citizen science and wants to broaden their knowledge and share experience.
The conference will examine how citizen science can take root in the academic environment and become a meaningful form of cooperation with society. The speakers will talk about the application of citizen methods in research activity and their link with social change and interdisciplinary partnerships. Experiences of community engagement and innovative citizen science initiatives in Europe will also be presented.
Event speakers:
- Anne Kathrine Overgaard and Thomas Kaarsted (University of Southern Denmark), presentation topic: "Citizen Science: Libraries as Enablers of Impactful Research and Community Engagement"
- Prof. Eglė Butkevičienė (Kaunas University of Technology), presentation topic: "Citizen Science Ecosystem: Concept and Context"
- Dr Etienne Serbe (Max Planck Institute / LMU, Backyard Brains), presentation topic: "Citizen Science - in and out of the Lab"
- Gintaras Jonaitis (VILNIUS TECH), presentation topic: "How Engineers Like to Play. Technologies that Engage Citizens in Participation (Communication) with Scientists"
- Dr Giedrė Godienė (Vilnius University), presentation topic: "Participatory Joint GIS Mapping: Citizens Science and Sense of Belonging"
