Let's decide together! A citizens' assembly has started in Kaunas District

Today, 3 October, the second day of the citizens' assembly takes place in Kaunas District.
The first assembly day was held on 12 September. Randomly selected residents of Kaunas District deepened their knowledge of the national and municipal health systems, listened to presentations by different speakers and gathered information for the upcoming discussions.
Today participants go deeper into the topic of preventive healthcare services. They will discuss in smaller groups and start to outline the first directions for recommendations.
The main question of the assembly: how to make sure that all groups of residents use preventive healthcare services.
A citizens' assembly is a democratic process close to the principles of citizen science: both methods involve the public in processes that traditionally belonged to specialists only. The Lithuanian Citizen Science Association is observing and will evaluate how citizen engagement affects decision-making in Kaunas District. We hope this experience will become an example for other Lithuanian municipalities.
The project is implemented by the Kaunas District Municipality Administration together with the National NGO Coalition and partners. It is funded by the Swiss-Lithuanian Cooperation Programme "Civic Engagement".
