20 November in Rykantai: digitisation workshop "Community memory online?" (in Lithuanian)

Who decides which local history is preserved and made available online? Usually archives, museums and researchers. Yet many of the most important memories stay at home: in family albums, letters and people's stories.

The workshop "Bendruomenės atmintis online?" (Community memory online?) is about how communities can create and keep their own digital heritage. Participants will get to know citizen science and participatory methods, see examples of projects created by communities themselves, and hear from the Rykantai community about its own experience.

Designing a community time capsule

In the second part, participants work in groups of 3-5. Each group gets a scenario and plans an online community time capsule: a digital place where the community itself collects and keeps its photos, letters and stories. Groups will work out who fills the capsule, how material is digitised and where it is kept, who opens it and when, and what the first step will be. The discussion will also cover how such joint work can strengthen the community itself.
