New platform lets you explore how different groups in Lithuania see science and climate change

Researchers at Mykolas Romeris University have published the online platform INFODEMIJA, where you can explore what people in Lithuania think about science and climate change. It is intended for research and education institutions, policymakers and anyone who communicates science.
The platform is based on a representative survey of 1,005 residents of Lithuania, focus group discussions and an analysis of good practice. According to the researchers, this is the first time an evidence-based segmentation of science audiences has been presented in Lithuania.
Four audience segments
- Science enthusiasts (30.2%): young and highly educated, they value depth, methodology and sources.
- Moderate supporters (29.9%): active online, reached through short visual formats on social media.
- Quiet trusters (23.4%): older, more often rural, with the strongest belief in climate change, they get information from television and radio.
- Distant from science (16.5%): sceptical of institutions, reached through local partners and personal experience.
For each segment the platform gives a detailed profile: demographics, attitudes to science and climate change, trust in science and information channels. It also offers five strategic recommendations and 73 international examples of good practice.
The study matters for citizen science too: to involve people in research, you first need to know how they see science and through which channels they can be reached.
The platform was developed within the INFODEMIJA project (2023-2026), funded by the Research Council of Lithuania under the programme "Strengthening societal resilience and crisis management in the context of contemporary geopolitical events". The study is led by Dr. Monika Mačiulienė. The platform is in Lithuanian.
