
On 19 April 2023, Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VILNIUS TECH) hosted pre-conference events that were part of the international conference "Vizualumas 2023: Žiniasklaida ir komunikacija (dez)informacijos amžiuje".
One of the most important events of the day was the opening of the VILNIUS TECH Citizen Science Centre. At the inauguration, welcome speeches were given by the Vice-Rector for Studies Dr Živilė Sederevičiūtė-Pačiauskienė, the Dean Dr Vaida Asakavičiūtė and the head of the Citizen Science Centre Dr Monika Mačiulienė. After the opening, a vignette of VILNIUS TECH projects focused on citizen science was presented, including Erasmus+ FabCitizen (presented by Dr Jan M. Pawlowski), the Horizon Europe project CLIMAS (presented by Dr Aelita Skaržauskienė), the H2020 project INCENTIVE (presented by Dr Monika Mačiulienė) and the Erasmus+ project CHILD (the CHILD project was presented by Vaida Nedzinskaitė-Mitkė).
Later, a "World Cafe" workshop was held with the stakeholders of the Citizen Science Centre on the future of citizen science at VILNIUS TECH, in Lithuania and in the Baltic region. The workshop was chaired by Prof. Dr Aelita Skaržauskienė, with the participation of Jan Pawlowski, Dr Kristina Kovaitė and Prof. Dr Vytis Valatka. The day ended with a round-table discussion with policymakers on citizen science initiatives and centres in the context of Lithuanian science and innovation policy. The discussion was chaired by Dr Monika Mačiulienė.
