This Friday, 23 May, Taxonomy Day is marked across Europe. Everyone can contribute to the campaign and help preserve biodiversity.
Taxonomy, the science that classifies and names living nature, is the foundation of biodiversity conservation. However, this field increasingly lacks specialists and public attention.
The #NameItToSaveIt campaign invites citizens across Europe to take an active part on 23 May: to observe nature, photograph animals and plants, and record their discoveries on scientific platforms. Every observation helps scientists better understand the distribution and survival of species.
This is a great opportunity for Lithuanian citizens too: our nature is rich, yet data on many species are still lacking.
How to take part:
-Observe the nature around you
-Photograph plants, animals and fungi
-Record your observations on platforms such as iNaturalist or similar
-Share with #NameItToSaveIt
